“A parameter was quickly established, ultimately determining that no threat to the public was still on scene,” read a statement from police.

Investigators believe a teen was playing with a gun near the Buckle store, causing it to fire and strike him with a bullet.

He fled the scene, and police have not been able to locate him.

The incident was initially reported as an active shooter, prompting a large police presence and shoppers to flee the busy mall.

One 911 caller said she was in Below 21 when she heard gunfire, according to emergency dispatch records.

“I saw people running so I just ran out,” she said.

Another caller said the shooter had a handgun. They did not know if anyone was injured.

The mall entrance near the H&M was blocked off and police tape was by the Buckle store.

Multiple stores closed their gates and some ushered people into back rooms.

Around 3:45 p.m. the scene was no longer in urgent response mode and people were going in and out of some mall entrances.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
